League Level I
History
The Football League was founded in 1888 by clubs in the North and Midlands in search of regular fixtures. It became Division 1 (D1) in 1892 with the addition of Division 2. The clubs in Division 1 broke away from the Football League in 1992 to form the Premier League (PL).
