Reading transferred from the Western League to the United League. There was West Country opposition however in the Bristol Charity Cup, where Reading were beaten in the final by Bedminster. There was controversy in the Southern League as Reading beat Chatham 3-2. The Kent team protested about Reading's winning goal and the match was ordered to be replayed, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
