Reading transferred from the United League to the Southern District Combination. The Southern League season was notable for the resignation of two clubs. Brighton United had drawn 1-1 at Elm Park and won 4-2 at the County Ground before resigning near the end of the season. The team were to later reform as Brighton and Hove Albion. Cowes resigned before meeting Reading.
