<< Season 1912-13 >>

For the second consecutive season, Reading knocked first division opposition out of the FA Cup, beating Tottenham 1-0, before going out to another first division team, Blackburn. This was to prove Reading's last FA Cup win for twelve years, as they went 10 games without a win before beating Erith and Belvedere in 1924.

After the end of the season Reading undertook an interesting tour of Italy, beating Genoa (4-2), Milan (5-0), Pro Vercelli (6-0), and an Italian national team (2-0), but losing to Casale (1-2). The four club teams were probably the strongest in Italy, having finished as the top four in the Northern section of the Italian League. Pro Vercelli went on to clinch the title by beating the Southern champions, Lazio, 6-0 in a play-off.

As a result of the tour a Genoan player, Attilio Freschia, signed for Reading while being suspended by the Italian FA. Although he never made a first team appearance, he was the first Italian to play in England. He moved to Croydon Common before returning to Italy. He went on to gain one Italian cap before his premature death in 1923.
