<< Season 1919-20 >>

Reading's last season in the Southern League produced a respectable 7th place finish. Long-serving manager, Harry Matthews, having seen the club through many of its most difficult days, eventually resigned, although he was to remain on the board until 1922. Instead it fell to Harry Marshall to guide the club into its first Football League season.
