|Graph of Seasons|
This graph shows Reading's position within the league hierarchy between 1894-95 and 2016-17. The division abbreviations are as in the summary of seasons. The highest overall position is 8th in 2006-07 (8th in Premier League), while the lowest is 84th in 1971-72 (16th in Division 4). The overall positions can be read most clearly from the stripped-down version of the graph. Clicking on the image shows a slightly different version.
Note that in 2004, Divisions 1, 2 and 3 were re-branded as the Championship, League One and League Two respectively. Unlike the formation of the Premier League in 1992, this is not a sufficiently significant restructuring of English football to justify introducing a new division colour.
For recent seasons each page has a graph giving the League position throughout the season. For convenience, all these graphs are collated here. For some seasons, a points gap graph is also given. This gives the difference in points between Reading and the second placed team when Reading are top of the table, or the difference between Reading and the top team otherwise.
