Foreign Opponents

The only games against foreign opposition classified as first-class matches on this site are those in the Peace Cup. Reading have however played many friendlies against foreign opposition. The first was in 1906 when Parisien Athletique visited Elm Park and were beaten 13-5. Reading's first foreign tour was to Northern Italy in 1913. They won four of their five games, including beating both Milan and an Italian XI. The next foreign tours were not until the 1930s, when Dutch International Trial XIs were twice beaten, 3-1 and 6-4. A more extensive tour of Holland in 1935 saw Reading draw with Vitesse Arnhem and ADO Den Haag and play two games against Breda: the first ending in a 6-5 defeat and the second in a 4-1 win.
