Southern Professional Floodlit Cup
History
The Southern Professional Floodlit Cup (SPFC) was a precursor to the League Cup during the 1950s contested by teams from the south of the country. It was played in midweek at a time when floodlights were only just being introduced. Reading twice reached the final, losing 2-1 to Luton in 1957 and 2-0 to Portsmouth in 1958, both games being played at Elm Park.
