<< Season 1907-08 >>

For this, and the following few seasons, the Charity Shield was competed for by the champions of the Southern and Football Leagues, Queen's Park Rangers losing the inaugural competition to Manchester United in a replay. In one of the strangest incidents in the Southern League's history, Bradford Park Avenue were elected to the league, winning their first ever competitive match 3-1 at Elm Park.

Note The result of the game at home to New Brompton on 8th February 1908 is given as 2-0 in DRFC and The Official Centenary History of the Southern League, and 0-0 in HOE. I believe that the former is correct, with Minter and Gee scoring for Reading.
