<< Season 1945-46 >>

The Football League did not resume immediately at the end of the Second World War, remaining suspended until 1946. Instead there were two regional Division 3 South competitions and an extended Division 3 South League Cup. However the FA Cup was competed for in 1945-46, the ties being played over two legs to make up for the lack of fixtures. Reading lost out to Aldershot in a high-scoring contest, with Harry Brooks getting six for the Shots over the two legs (one in the first, five in the second). Indeed the six games against Aldershot during the season produced 39 goals, with Reading winning 23-16 on aggregate.
